WEEKLY OUTLOOK: NIFTY LIGHTS UP 23,000 AS DIWALI WEEK BEGINS. WILL THE FLAME HOLD?
On a balcony in Coimbatore, seven-year-old Meera has a very serious job. Her grandmother has handed her six clay diyas, and each one gets its own colour: golden, green, blue, pink, red and silver. She lines them up, pours the oil and lights them one by one. Then a gust of wind sweeps through. Five flames wobble. One flickers out. Meera doesn't panic. She cups her small hands around it, waits, and relights it with a grin.
Keep that picture in mind, because it's exactly the kind of week Dalal Street is walking into. Diwali is days away, and the market has finally found a flicker of light after a gloomy stretch that included eight straight weekly falls. But the winds are picking up from every direction: oil prices, American elections and a flood of company results. So, what's the stock market outlook for this week? The Nifty has six flames to protect, and so do you. Let's light them one by one.
Golden Diya: Last Week's Recap
The Nifty 50 rose 2% to close at 23,053.10, and the Sensex added 1.82% to settle at 74,459.53. It wasn't a smooth ride. The index swung between 22,387 and 23,118, bounced off its 200-week moving average (a long-term safety net traders love to watch) and finished back above 23,000.
Think of a cricket team that was 20 for 4 and finally stitched together a partnership. Three things built it. Traders who had bet against the market rushed to close those bets, which pushed prices up. American bond yields eased. And company results, especially Reliance's record quarterly profit of Rs. 29,550 crores came in better than feared. Pharma led with a jump of over 6%, while healthcare, media and realty followed. Jio Platforms also made a glittering debut, listing at a premium of about 21%. Even IT joined in, with the Nifty IT index up 1.9%, Wipro gaining 4.4% and Infosys 2.7%, though TCS slipped 1%.
Here's the catch. Midcaps and smallcaps rose about 2% each, but they're still down for the month, and Bank Nifty gained just 0.75%. The party has started, but not everyone has arrived yet.
Green Diya: Nifty and Bank Nifty Levels
Green means go, but only when the signal is real. So, what's the Nifty prediction for this week? On Friday, the Nifty opened at 22,964, touched 23,118 and still closed 0.51% higher, reclaiming its 20-day moving average, while Bank Nifty slipped 0.41%. Momentum is improving. The big hurdle is 23,200. A close above it could open the road to 23,450 to 23,500. A slip below 22,845 would turn the mood cautious.
There's one warning light. Only 36% of Nifty stocks trade above their 50-day averages, and midcaps fell nearly 1% on Friday even as the index rose. That's like an assembly where only the front row is singing. With Tuesday's weekly expiry and India VIX at 15.30, expect some sharp swings.
Bank Nifty lagged the party, closing at 54,686.95. Here are the Bank Nifty support and resistance levels to keep on your screen, along with the Nifty's.
| INDEX | FRIDAY CLOSE | KEY SUPPORT | KEY RESISTANCE | MOOD |
| Nifty 50 | 23,053.10 | 22,845 to 22,750, then 22,600 | 23,200, then 23,500 | Cautiously positive |
| Bank Nifty | 54,686.95 | 53,000 | 56,000 | Range-bound |
Bank Nifty has been boxed between 53,000 and 56,000 for a while. A close above the ceiling is a green light for banks. A slide below the floor is a red one.
BLUE DIYA: RESULTS CALENDAR
Which companies report Q2 results this week? More than 1,450 of them between November 2 and 7. The big Nifty names include ITC, SBI, Bajaj Finserv, Bharti Airtel, Mahindra and Mahindra, ONGC, Titan, Hindalco, Tata Steel and Apollo Hospitals. Think of results as report cards, and focus on three numbers: sales growth, profit margins and what management says about the months ahead. This week the market isn't only checking the marks, it's reading the teacher's remarks too. SBI will reveal how healthy lending really is, Titan and M&M will show whether festive demand is genuine, and after last week's rally, pharma names have a lot to prove.

PINK DIYA: FII AND DII FLOWS
Picture foreign investors (FIIs) as guests who'd been walking out of the party for ten straight weeks. Last week, they walked back in. They bought about Rs. 14,540 crores of Indian shares, including Rs. 3,599 crores on Friday alone. So, are FIIs buying or selling Indian stocks right now? Buying, for the moment.
But zoom out. They still sold Rs. 22,013 crores in October. Meanwhile, domestic institutions (DIIs), the home team of mutual funds and insurers, bought Rs. 62,220 crores in the same month. That's the family that kept the house lit while the guests were away. If FIIs are the gust that moves the flame, DIIs are the cupped hands that keep it steady. One week of foreign buying is a good sign, not yet a trend. If the guests keep coming this week, a Nifty breakout above 23,200 becomes far easier to believe.
RED DIYA: FESTIVE SENTIMENT
Red is Diwali's colour, and the numbers behind the cheer are real. October GST collections jumped 22.9% to Rs. 2.31 lakh crore, the second highest ever. Credit growth ran at 19.1% in September, and the services PMI hit 56.2 (anything above 50 means growth). The rupee even logged its best month in eight, strengthening to 94.95 against the dollar.
Now the fun part. Diwali Laxmi Pujan falls on Sunday, November 8, which means Muhurat trading, a special one-hour session that welcomes the new Samvat 2083 year. The Muhurat trading 2026 time is 2:20 PM to 3:30 PM, and trades made in it count like any other day. Markets stay closed on Tuesday, November 10 for Balipratipada. Meanwhile, this week's October auto sales will show whether showroom crowds turned into real sales, or whether dealers are simply stocking up.
Is Muhurat trading good for investors? It's lovely for tradition and for starting a good habit, but it's not a crystal ball. At last Diwali's session, the Nifty closed near 25,869, and some experts predicted 30,000 by this Diwali. It closed last Friday at 23,053, nearly 11% lower. Celebrate the ritual but let earnings and valuations choose your stocks.
SILVER DIYA: GLOBAL CUES
Silver is the shiny diya that catches every breeze. The first gust arrives on Tuesday. How will US midterm elections affect the Indian stock market? Not through our companies directly, but through three channels: oil, the dollar and global mood. The result could shift America's stance on Iran, and early results reach India on Wednesday morning.
Oil is the real wind. Brent crude is near $118 after climbing about 14% in October, with tension around the Strait of Hormuz keeping everyone on edge. India imports most of its crude, so costly oil means a weaker rupee, higher inflation and pressure on airlines, paints and logistics. Traders are watching $120 as the line in the sand.
Wall Street ended Friday on a sour note, with the Nasdaq down 2.8% after disappointing updates from Intel and Amazon. That could dent Indian IT stocks at the open. The bright spot is the US 10-year yield, a key measure of global borrowing costs, which eased to 4.94% and gives emerging markets like India a little breathing room. Later, the Bank of England is expected to raise rates to 4% on Thursday, and America's jobs report lands on Friday.
On the MCX side, gold slipped Rs. 3,200 to about Rs. 1,42,000 per 10 grams on November 1, and silver fell Rs. 4,200 to about Rs. 1,86,000 per kg, as inflation worries and dollar moves pressured both. Crude and bullion are the two to watch.
THE FINAL FLAME
Light all six diyas but cup your hands around them. Bulls hold a narrow edge, and 23,200 is the line to watch. Above it, with banks and midcaps joining in, the recovery turns real. Below 22,845, protect your gains. Stick to strong large companies with solid results, go easy on smaller stocks until more of them join the rally, and size your bets for a week with an election, an oil risk and 1,450 report cards. A simple routine for the week: each evening, check Nifty against 23,200, Bank Nifty against 56,000, Brent against $120 and the day's FII number. Happy Diwali from all of us at GoPocket, and may your portfolio glow as bright as your balcony.
Muhurat is a moment, not a mission. If you feel like marking it, the GoPocket mobile app will be open on Sunday, November 8, from 2:20 PM to 3:30 PM. Place your orders with ease, enjoy a calm and divine start, and let the diya do the glowing.
Diya lit. App open. Diwali on. The rest is up to you!
