Nestle India Share Price Falls 7.8% After Q2 FY27 Results: Why Strong Numbers Didn't Lift the Stock

Nestle India reported Q2 FY27 consolidated net profit of ₹1,009.6 crore, up 35.9% year-on-year, on revenue of ₹6,788.3 crore, up 20.3%, driven by double-digit volume growth, Business Standard reported on October 15, 2026. Despite that, the Nestle India share price fell 7.76% to close at ₹1,275.80 on the NSE, after sliding as much as 9% intraday.

How can a 36% profit jump lead to an 8% fall? The answer is mostly about expectations, not the quarter itself.

Chairman and Managing Director Manish Tiwary said growth was broad-based across all product groups, led by double-digit volume growth, while the company significantly increased investment behind its brands, Business Standard reported. For the first half (April–September 2026), consolidated net profit rose 41.6% to ₹1,968.28 crore, APAC News Network reported.

Why Did the Nestle India Share Price Fall?

The results were broadly in line with expectations, not ahead of them. Analysts had expected standalone net profit of ₹1,022–1,034 crore, and the company reported ₹1,026.7 crore, Business Standard noted. When a stock has already priced in a strong quarter, an in-line result can trigger profit-taking.

Business Standard also linked the fall to concerns about rising food inflation, which can push up costs for milk, cocoa, coffee and other inputs in coming quarters.

GoPocket Analysis: Margins, Ad Spend and the Base Effect

Three numbers help explain the quarter better than the headline growth rate:

  • Low base: Q2 FY26 consolidated profit had fallen about 17% to ₹743 crore because of higher input costs. Part of this year's 36% growth is recovery from that weak base.
  • Margin recovery: EBITDA margin works out to about 23.8% (₹1,618.6 crore ÷ ₹6,788.3 crore), compared with 21.9% in Q2 FY26 as reported by IANS. That is an improvement of nearly 2 percentage points.
  • Heavy brand spending: Advertising and marketing spend rose 46%. Spending that much while still expanding margins shows strong gross profitability, but it also leaves less room if input costs rise.

Sequentially, profit grew only about 5.3% from ₹958.68 crore in Q1 FY27. The steep year-on-year growth rates will be harder to repeat once the weak base drops out.

What Are the Risks?

  • Input costs: Milk, cocoa and coffee prices can squeeze margins quickly.
  • Food inflation: Higher prices can slow volume growth, especially in rural markets.
  • High expectations: When results only match forecasts, the stock can still fall.
  • Base effect: Growth rates should moderate as comparisons get tougher.

What Should Investors Watch Next?

  • Volume growth versus price growth in Q3 FY27.
  • EBITDA margin as input costs evolve.
  • Advertising intensity and its payback in market share.
