Jio Financial Services Share Price: Why Q2 FY27 Profit Fell 51% Despite Strong Lending Growth
Jio Financial Services reported a 51% year-on-year fall in consolidated net profit to ₹340.44 crore for Q2 FY27 (July–September 2026), compared with ₹695 crore a year earlier, as total expenses rose to ₹1,166 crore from ₹436.50 crore, PTI reported via Free Press Journal on October 15, 2026. Interest income, however, more than tripled. The Jio Financial Services share price closed flat at ₹219.01 on the NSE on October 15, before the results were announced.
So is the business weakening, or is something else going on? The answer lies in where the profit used to come from.

Compared with Q1 FY27, when the company earned ₹830.3 crore, profit fell about 59% and operating revenue dropped 15.2% sequentially, Inc42 reported.
GoPocket Analysis: The Dividend Income Effect
The biggest swing factor is dividend income, not lending. Jio Financial holds shares in Reliance Industries and other group investments, and dividends from those holdings have lifted earlier quarters. It recorded dividend income of ₹269 crore in Q2 FY26 and ₹508.6 crore in Q1 FY27, Inc42 reported.
Dividend income tends to arrive in specific quarters, usually after annual general meetings, so it doesn't repeat evenly. When a large dividend lands in one quarter and not the next, reported profit swings sharply even if the lending business is growing. That's why the sequential fall from ₹830 crore looks so dramatic.
The operating story is different. Interest income, which comes mainly from lending, rose about 3.2 times year-on-year. But expenses rose about 2.7 times as the company builds its lending, payments and insurance businesses. Jio Financial is shifting from an investment-income company to an operating financial-services company, and that transition costs money upfront.

What Are the Risks?

- Lumpy income: Dividend income makes quarterly profit hard to compare.
- Credit quality: A loan book growing 154% a year needs close watching for defaults as it seasons.
- Competition: Lending, payments and insurance are crowded markets.
